JEET KUNE DO

Jeet Kune Do is famous as the martial art of Bruce Lee the action film star. Although Bruce Lee was most famous for his martial arts film career, he was a phenomenal martial artist in his own right. Bruce Lee was decades ahead of his time in the way he approached the martial arts. “Absorb which is useful, reject what is useless, add what is specifically your own.” Bruce Lee and his close friend and training partner, Dan Inosanto, researched and drew from over 26 different martial arts to create Jun Fan Gung Fu. This art eventually grew to become Jeet Kune Do. As much a philosophy as a martial art, JKD stresses efficiency of movement and effective techniques all oriented towards self-defense. This philosophy of always being on the cutting edge, training in the most efficient manner, and constantly critically analyzing yourself and your training methods can be applied to any martial art or for that matter, anything you do in your life.

WESTERN BOXING

The origins of western boxing are in England. But, as long as mankind has existed, there have been methods of hitting each other with the hands. Today boxing is a competitive ring sport, possibly the most popular martial art in the world. The techniques from western boxing are ring proven and are easily adapted for self-defense. At Integrated Martial Arts, boxing is one of our core arts. Called the “sweet science”, the emphasis in boxing is to hit while not allowing yourself to be hit. Training in boxing, as in all our arts, will improve coordination, agility, cardiovascular conditioning, and strength.

MUAY THAI (THAI BOXING)

Thai boxing comes to us from Thailand. Competitors are allowed to punch, kick, elbow, knee, and hold their opponents. The applications for self-defense are obvious. Possibly the most powerful martial art out there, Muay Thai is known as the art of the eight limbs. Thai fighters are revered as the most well conditioned martial artists in the world. Integrated Martial Arts, is affiliated and certified by the Thai Boxing Association of the USA, the first and largest Thai Boxing organization in the world.

SAVATE

Savate is French kickboxing. Savateurs are known for their fluidity and grace. Training in Savate enhances footwork, flexibility, timing, and balance. Known for being able to “box with their feet”, Savateurs are able to combine punches and kicks in rapid fluid combinations. We are members of the California Savate Association and have trained several members of the United States national team.

BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU

The Gracie family took the martial arts world by storm when they competed and dominated the first series of “no holds barred events” held in the United States. This style originated in Brazil in the early 1900’s. Since then, the practical and devastating ground fighting techniques of BJJ have proved to the world that you have to be able to handle yourself on the ground or your self-defense skills are severely lacking. Our instructors are direct students of Cleber Luciano, a third degree black belt under Royler Gracie and Rickson Gracie.

COMBAT SUBMISSION WRESTLING

In our no-gi grappling class, we teach the grappling system developed by former world champion, Erik Paulson. Erik developed one of the first “no-gi” submission wrestling systems.  Combat Submission Wrestling draws from the worlds best grappling and striking arts.

FILIPINO MARTIAL ARTS

As diverse as the 10,000 island themselves, the FMA’s are know by many names, such as Kali, Escrima, Arnis, Kuntao, and Silat. The FMA’s are a complete system encompassing all ranges of combat from throwing weapons to ground fighting. We teach the Inosanto/ La Coste method, which includes stick (single and double), knife, staff, and flexible weapons such as scarves, and whips. We are certified by Guro Dan Inosanto, probably the most well known and respected Filipino martial artist in the world.

SAYOC KALI

Integrated Martial Arts is proud to be the only certified Sayoc Kali School in Southern California. In fact, we’re one of three groups outside of the eastern United States. Sayoc Kali is a highly evolved Filipino martial art that concentrates heavily on blade work. Hence the motto, “All blade, all the time”. Practitioners learn to be proficient in the dangerous world of edged weapons. Training in Sayoc Kali will help you understand the dynamic relationship between an armed and an unarmed opponent.

KIDS CLASSES

One of the most rewarding areas of martial arts instruction is teaching children. Participation in a good martial arts program will help your child in many ways. Our program is designed to help improve your child’s physical and mental wellbeing. He or she will develop balance, coordination, strength, endurance, and flexibility. All these skills will help your child to do better in the future, no matter what activities he or she chooses to pursue. But, more importantly, we’ll be helping your child grow in other ways as well. Our classes teach the value of hard work, the importance of setting goals and meeting them. Through these things we develop confidence, and self-discipline, traits that will serve your child well throughout his or her life.
